Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is an integrated computer-based system used to manage internal and external resources, including tangible assets, financial resources, materials, and human resources. Its purpose is to facilitate the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization. Built on a centralized database and normally utilizing a common computing platform, ERP systems consolidate all business operations into a uniform and enterprise-wide system environment.

Customer relationship management (CRM) is a broadly recognized, widely-implemented strategy for managing and nurturing a company’s interactions with customers, clients and sales prospects. It involves using technology to organize, automate, and synchronize business processes—principally sales activities, but also those for marketing, customer service, and technical support. The overall goals are to find, attract, and win new clients, nurture and retain those the company already has, entice former clients back into the fold, and reduce the costs of marketing and client service.

Hence, CRM is a customer-facing solution, whereas ERP is a backend solution, one is designed to support and boost sales while other is designed to maintain backend activities in an organization. Both these solutions provide a business with adequate advantage to consistently outperform previous year’s goals.

While many business organizations today do have an ERP system in place a lot of them still lack the CRM structure, having a good CRM system in your organization is vital as; CRM feeds data into the various components of ERP, helping with planning, product delivery and field service.

CRM – Customer relationship management system is the backbone to organizations day to day functioning, maintaining a good relationship with existing customers ensures future income from those customers while gathering new leads.
